Lieberman Plan Offered

Joe Lieberman has come out with an idea for a bipartisan war cabinet to assure success in Iraq. Don't look for the story in the Washington Post, it's not there and the NY Times buried in the last paragraph of a story about upcoming Bush speeches.. I did find it on the front of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, though.

He's calling for, basically, a truce between Democrats and the White House on Iraq, and for the two groups to work together. The Dem's he says have to realize Bush is Commander in Chief for 3 more years, the GOP has to realize that they need some cooperation from Democrats to make Iraq work.

This used to be what politicians called "the loyal opposition" where the out of power party came up with suggestions, and ideas, and tried to work with the party in power. The general idea was that cooperating on one or two causes made compromise on some by the party in power easier to stomach.

Since the mid-80's it's been kind of a foriegn concept in the US, and has become nearly absent since the GOP took the House in 1994.

I'm not sure if there are enough centrist Democrats who would be willing to work on such a panel, but the idea shouldn't be tossed out without consideration. Hell, it could be the starting point for a return to civil political discussions in the country.

By the way, if you are looking for coverage of Lieberman in the Post, they have two articles on Lowell Weicker wanting him challenged in the next election (here and here), and some more on that in their blog "The Fix".
Once again, the MSM blows it, and a second rate paper in a medium market covers the story.

Good idea, one whose time is long overdue.

I woin't comment on the urine yellow background except to say that I don't like the yellow background. It looks like urine.

Looks like you went where the huskies go.....

I don't think it's a bad idea either, though I wonder how long it would take one side or the other to turn it into a political football.

I was told that the snow white background was blinding, so I looked for something else. I'll probably play with the colors some more later. If you've got a suggestion, send me the 6 digit CSS compliant hex number for it.

It's good that even one Democrat is willing to work together. Lieberman seems pretty sensible(Even if he is a Democrat!)

Expect to see Joe Lieberman trashed and abandoned by his own party.

He is already being abandoned. The Democrats believe that if we win this war, they will lose the next election.

They used to say "Politics end at the water's edge".

Maybe a few wish to be able to say that again.

I having tough time embracing Lieberman. He's still a Democrat. I'd say that he sounds like he's more moderate than the top Democratic noise makers *but* we don't need the congress involved in running the war beyond approving funding.

All you have to do is follow my link to "The Fix" at the Post and read the remarks to see how he's being abandonded by Democrats. The far left moonbats think he's a cancer and want to use radiation therapy. The "Clinton Moderates" think he too conservative and won't mention him. CT. is trying to get the guy he beat, Lowell Weiker to run against him.

As far as embracing him, I do because he's got one quality missing in a lot of politicians of both parties, integrity. He's admitted mistakes, and stuck with tough decisions when most politicians refuse to.

SR, I agree, but as I posted there, as long as that wing of the Democratic party controls their movement, they'll stay the minority.

"If you've got a suggestion,"

Nope. I just like to bitch. Kind of like the Left. LOL

"send me the 6 digit CSS compliant hex number for it."

I have no fucking idea whjat this means. Keep it up and I'll respond with technical construction terms, like "stick this corbel in your egress".

Good post.

In fact, Lieberman is right on the money. The question has never been about 'opposition', but rather, 'loyal opposition'.

Far too many dems want Iraq to fail because that would mark a George Bush failure- and too many dems are willing to trade a free Iraq just for that.

That's not opposition- that's treason- not just directed at the US, but that treason is pointed at freedom as well.

Mark - At least you admit all you do is bitch. Right now I'm using FFFFCC and FFFECE for the colors.

Sigmond&Friends - You're right about many dems reason for wanting failure, which is disgusting.

Thanks for stopping by, did you bring my prozac?
