Why Doesn't Bush Address the NAACP?

For the last 5 years or so, since the 2000 election, President Bush has been bashed for ignoring the NAACP. Many of us realize that he's done it because of their partisan attacks during the 2000 election season.

Julian Bond, the current head of the organization has berated him for it, but now he's can look in the mirror when he wonders why the president won't talk to his organization. Check this article out and you'll understand why GW probably won't be inviting Julian to lunch anytime soon. (Don't try and find anything in the Washington Post or NY Times)

h/t to Charlie Sykes.

Unrelated Note:

I'm flying out to Chicago early Friday morning for some family business and a job interview. I may get a post up Friday at some point, and will return to my regular frequent posts Sunday evening.

Why would anyone go where they're not welcome? I try as much as possible to avoid places where I am not wanted.

The IRS needs to drop their tax exempt status. That organization has long ago stopped being a non-partisan entity. If I gave money to the RNC or DNC (God forbid) or a candidate it is not deductable. Why is this purely Democrat group exempt?

The one thing about this issue is it shows they are scared of losing their monopoly on the black vote. The more outrageous the claims the greater the fear. The possibility of black Republicans winning state-wide elections in several races this November has them terrified.

Ascan, thanks. One of the things I've enjoyed about being here is re-meeting so many folks like you that I've served with before.

Shoprat- That's been GW's point since 2001. The Urban League, which also represents a large number of African Americans has been pretty gratious with him, and he's visted them annually. They don't always agree with him, but they have a dialogue, not spitting contests.

LargeBill- The problem (for the IRS) is if they do go after the tax exempt status it will be played as strictly political payback.

I think Lynn Swann and Michael Steele winning elections would be a riot, it will be interesting to see if Swann can get the NAACP's endorsement (Steele won't).

I respect Bush even more for ignoring the abuse the NAACP has to offer. It would be a bit stupid to go that route when there's absolutely nothing to be gained but making oneself an easy target.

As for your trip, be safe and good luck! ;)

Thanks for the wishes of luck from everyone. Evidently it went well, I have a technical interview Wednesday and Thursday have to set up a trip to Boston to go through a gauntlet of 5 other interviewers.

Hey, good luck with the interview.

Bush doesn't address the NAACP for the same reason I don't talk to the wall. Waste of time. They have their closed minds made up and won't listen to anything. They already know how they want to behave. No matter how much Bush would work with them it would NEVER be right or enough for the NAACP.

Yeah but they do not acknowledge our President has done more for black Americans than Clinton did and there are more homes bought by minorities during this administration etc. etc.

I would ignore the NAACP too...esp after they nominated Harry Belafonte and basically making him their spokesperson...what a black eye. He should move and live w/his buddy in Venezuela.

Good luck on your job interview!!
