So Who Is Next?
Bloggers, such as Charlie Sykes and Jessica McBride, and others, have started tossing the name of Diane Sykes into the ring. She received bipartisan approval for the 7th Circuit job, and was a topic of discussion and some mild buzz before the Miers fiasco started.
You can bet that it will be a woman, and Sykes, Edith Brown Clement and others should be heartened by that. However, both have at least one issue that came up during the Roberts hearings, they are members of the Federalist Society. Even though it didn't seem to matter when they were confirmed to their current posts, the fact is now that the name is in the air, you can bet the left wing activist groups will grab onto it. Roberts reaction to speculation he belonged to the Federalists didn't do any favors for those who following him in nomination.

I have to disagree that it will be a woman. I have a feeling that this will now justify nominating a white male. It wouldn't surprise me all that much. To be honest, it doesn't bother me one way or the other. There is nothing in the constitution that demands a gender quota on the Court.
While it may justify it in some circles, he still has to sleep with Laura, and she's let her wishes be known. I've been married long enough to know that a guy will do what the wife wants.
